BEUN Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Servet Karasu, Secretary General Prof. Dr. Zehra Safi Öz, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Hande Aydemir, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Baran Can Sağlam, Director of Ahmet Erdoğan Vocational School of Health Services Prof. Dr. Meryem Akpolat Ferah, Director of Obesity and Diabetes Application and Research Centre Prof. Dr. Taner Bayraktaroğlu, Deputy Director of Career Planning Application and Research Centre Dr. Seval Çapanlar, academics, experts and students attended the seminar which was held at Tahir Karauğuz Conference Hall on Farabi Campus.

In his opening speech, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Servet Karasu emphasised that BEUN, which includes important service centres such as the University Hospital and the Obesity and Diabetes Application and Research Centre, brings together the national and international scientific community with various academic events organised within the framework of different themes in the field of health. Prof. Dr. Servet Karasu stated that it is very important for the university to hold the Podology Summit, which is one of the important topics in the field of health, and thanked everyone who contributed to the programme, which was organised for the first time at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, and expressed his hope that the programme will contribute to the scientific community.

Prof. Dr. Meryem Akpolat Ferah, Director of Ahmet Erdoğan Vocational School of Health Services, began her speech by thanking Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, for his great support in organising the event. Prof. Dr. Meryem Akpolat Ferah stated that obesity and diabetes, which are major health problems of our time, should not be separated from foot health, which is dealt with in podology and is very important for both the general health and quality of life of individuals. Prof. Dr. Akpolat Ferah stated that the programme would provide important information about the field and emphasised that participants would also have the opportunity to learn about career opportunities in the field and the department's contribution to healthcare. At the end of his speech, Akpolat Ferah thanked BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, the stakeholders, the organising committee and all the participants for their support in organising the programme.

Speaking after Prof. Dr. Meryem Akpolat Ferah, Director of Obesity and Diabetes Application and Research Center, Prof. Dr. Taner Bayraktaroğlu said that the I. Zonguldak Podology Summit, which was organised for the first time at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, was very valuable. He stated that the event, which was organised in cooperation with the Obesity and Diabetes and Application and Research Center, Ahmet Erdoğan Vocational School of Health Services and the Career Planning Application and Research Center, is very important in promoting knowledge in the field of podology. In addition, Prof. Dr. Bayraktaroğlu stated that the recognition of the field of podology and the contributions of this field to health services as well as interdisciplinary studies have important results for the future and concluded his words by thanking all the contributors, especially Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, for their support in organising the event.

After the opening speeches, the I. Zonguldak Podology Summit, which consisted of a single session, continued with various presentations by academics and experts on podology, diabetes and foot health. After the presentations, the question and answer session started. After the Q&A and evaluation period, the programme ended with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the speakers and the taking of a souvenir photo.
